Theatre Twyford

The theatre is currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION with an expected opening in 2022. The following is provided as a guide only – final configuration may change prior to opening. Contact us for more details.

We are taking expressions of interest for events starting mid 2022.

Theatre Twyford is a proscenium arch theatre with raked seating, located in the centre of Merimbula on the far south coast of NSW.

  • Note: Twyford Hall adjacent to the theatre may be hired as an offstage orchestra area, assembly area or additional changing area for large casts.

  • Smoking is not permitted at any time in the building or within 15 metres of the building under local council regulations.
  • No alcohol or drugs to be consumed on Stage, in Dressing rooms or Control room.
  • Visiting cast and crew must agree to abide by Work Health & Safety standards and procedures including use of appropriate PPE

Pricing

Rates below are room hire only and include the use of the theatre auditorium, theatre foyer preshow and during interval, dressing rooms and attached bathrooms, stage, loading dock (and control room and stage manager desk if required).

These rates do not include staff costs over and above the duty manager and 3 hours of the tech manager’s time. Please discuss your event’s requirements with us as early as possible to avoid misunderstandings.

Marketing

  • All public events held at The Twyford will appear on The Twyford’s website, social media, e-news and display screens at no additional charge.
  • Please note that we do not accept requests to display posters, banners, send emails or display screen ads for events not held in our venue, but we are able to share links on social media to relevant arts events in our region that relate to artists or organisations with a direct connection to The Twyford.
  • The Twyford aims to reduce waste by minimising print-based materials by using online media and apps for advertising and programs and encourages hirers and producers to do the same. We are happy to provide advice on what works best for our audiences.

Ticketing Services

  • The Twyford provides a 24/7 ticketing service online as well as in-person and phone sales by our box office staff for all ticketed events. A fee per ticket applies to cover credit card fees, EFTPOS and box office software costs. Please note that, for safety and security reasons, only contactless payment by Visa, Mastercard, or EFTPOS is accepted.

Staffing

  • Minimum staff to meet WHS requirements are the duty manager, COVID safety marshall, technical manager / operator, 2 ushers. At least one staff member with first aid training must be rostered on.
  • COVID cleaning must take place after each session – please allow at least 3 hours between sessions. Events that trigger additional cleaning will be charged back the extra cost at an hourly rate.
  • Stage Equipment, Control Room, winches, EWP and Stage Manager Desk are only to be used under the supervision of the Twyford Technical Manager or Assistant Technical Manager.
  • The Twyford operates the cafe/bar prior to performances and during interval and provides RSA and Food Handling trained and qualified staff to run this service. The Twyford retains revenue from this service to cover cafe/bar staff costs.
  • If your event requires external catering, please discuss certification and staff requirements with the Venue Manager.

Staff available by arrangement

4 weeks notice required. Minimum payment 3 hours per session. Overtime and penalty rates may apply depending on timing of your event. Some positions may be filled by trained volunteers depending on availability. Staff costs for chargebacks are tied to the Live Performance Award.

Information For Touring Companies

Our management team is happy to make recommendations to make your stay in Merimbula a pleasant one.

  • Accommodation options in Merimbula are plentiful and available most of the year for touring cast and crew, many within easy walking distance of the theatre. We recommend you book well in advance however during summer, NSW/VIC/ACT school holiday periods and on long weekends or during festivals. Contact management for details.
  • Woolworths supermarket – 2 blocks from the theatre at 111 Main Street. Larger Woolworths in Tura Beach, 5 minutes drive north on Sapphire Coast Drive.
  • Newsagent, several banks with ATMs, post office, chemists, dentist, hair salons, clothing stores, health food store, bakery, deli, McDonalds, cafes, bars and restaurants are all within one or two blocks of the theatre.
  • Mitre-10 hardware on Main St.
  • Harvey Norman is in Tura Beach, 5 minutes’ drive north in the Tura Beach Shopping Centre on Sapphire Coast Drive.
