Work has recommenced on the Theatre Twyford building site following the Christmas break.
Up until December, builder Monarch Building Solutions was concentrating on the installation of high level work in the auditorium space for air conditioning, as well as electrical services for power, stage lighting, and audio visual systems.
Seating platforms have been erected, along with the theatre stage, which will have a sprung floor.
Work in the New Year will initially concentrate on enclosing the Level 1 Foyer facing Market Street, fitout of new dressing rooms and installation of rigging systems over the stage for curtains and screens.
Traffic controls in Beach Street are back and the Twyford Hall Inc Committee thanks the public for their continued patience and understanding while these safety measures are in place.
The theatre’s construction is being funded thanks to Twyford Hall Inc’s fundraising efforts over many years and a $7.4 million grant from the NSW government’s Regional Communities Development Fund.
The existing Hall is expected to reopen at the end of March for the Merimbula and District Art Group Easter exhibition, with the new theatre expected to open in July 2021.
Hire and touring production enquiries for the Hall or Theatre can be made via The Twyford’s website at thetwyford.com.au/venue-hire or by contacting Operations Manager Lis Shelley on 02 6495 7435.
