After 12 months of construction work largely hidden from view, The Twyford is awakening from behind the hoardings to reveal the brand new Theatre and Foyer, as well as modifications to the heritage-listed Hall.
The theatre build is being funded thanks to Twyford Hall Inc’s fundraising efforts over many years and a $7.4 million grant from the NSW government’s Regional Communities Development Fund.
The existing Hall has reopened briefly for the Merimbula and District Art Group’s Easter exhibition from 2-11 April, with the full complex including the new Theatre expected to be fully operational from mid 2021.
The Twyford has been running its buy-a-seat campaign for 3 years, and so far has raised almost $30 000 of its $200 000 target. Twyford ambassador Frankie J Holden said; “This is a great way to show your – or your business’ – support for the arts, or to acknowledge the memory of someone you care about. Donations of $1000 or more will be acknowledged with a seat plaque in the new theatre. All donations – large or small – are fully tax deductible and very welcome and will be acknowledged on our website and social media.”
